For Immediate Release Forensic Investigators Achieve Board Certification NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 17, 1999 - Five investigators with Forensic Medical
Management Services, the company operating the Medical Examiner's Office
for Davidson County, have become board-certified by the American Board
of Medicolegal Death Investigators. To earn the certification, each investigator
fulfilled continuing education requirements and passed an advanced knowledge
and skills examination. Passing the certification were: Gary Biggs, Sr., Fran Wheatley, Denise Smith, Sherrie Saint and Lance Long. All five are senior investigators for Forensic Medical Management Services. "Our goal is to continually raise our professional and ethical standards." said Basil Welch, administrator of Forensic Medical Management Services. "The people of this community deserve the highest level of expertise in the medical examiner's office." The American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators is a national, independent certification board that promotes high standards of practice for medicolegal death investigators. "Board certification is a tribute to the hard work performed by these five investigators," said Dr. Bruce Levy, chief medical examiner and CEO of Forensic Medical Management Services. "I am very pleased with the progress we're continuing to make in the medical examiner's office and especially proud of the effort being made by our staff." Last year, Forensic Medical Management Services was certified by the National Association of Medical Examiners, becoming only the 33rd medical examiner's office in the country to achieve that designation. That accreditation process involved a comprehensive review and on-site inspection of every aspect of the Medical Examiner's Office including the facilities, personnel, safety, and policies and procedures of the entire operation. Forensic Medical Management Services is a private company that contracts with Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County to operate the Medical Examiner's Office. Other Tennessee counties are also beginning to contract with the company for its services. Forensic Medical Management Services was formed in 1997 as a subsidiary
of Associated Pathologists, the largest pathologists practice in Tennessee,
with 36 physicians serving 53 hospitals, 500 outpatient clinics, 10 surgery
centers and more than 4,500 referring physicians. |
