For Immediate Release Metro Nashville Medical Examiner's Office Accredited by National Association of Medical Examiners NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 28, 1998 - The Metro Nashville Medical Examiner's Office received its accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) today. The accreditation comes almost one year after the Metro Council voted to privatize the Metro Nashville Medical Examiner's office by hiring Forensic Medical Management Services. "This accreditation is a tribute to the hard work performed by the entire staff. I am extremely pleased with the progress we've made in one year and the recognition by our peers in NAME, " said Dr. Bruce Levy, metro chief medical examiner and Tennessee state medical examiner. The Metro Nashville Medical Examiner's Office joins a group of only 33 medical examiner's offices in the United State that have achieved accreditation by NAME, the national professional organization of physician medical examiners, medical death investigators and medicolegal system administrators. The accreditation process involves a comprehensive review and on-site inspection of every aspect of the Office of the Medical Examiner including the facilities, personnel, safety, policies and procedures of the entire operation, and quality assurance. "NAME has also asked that we make our office and policy manuals available to other medical examiners as an example of a site for best practices," said Basil Welch, administrator for Metro Nashville Medical Examiner's Office. Forensic Medical Management Services was formed in 1997 as a subsidiary of Associated Pathologists, a local professional practice organization, with more than thirty physician pathologists serving more than forty hospitals, five hundred outpatient clinics, ten surgery centers and more than 4,200 referring physicians. Forensic Medical Management Services operates the Metro Nashville Medical Examiner's Office with three pathologists who are board certified in forensic, anatomic, and clinical pathology and thirteen forensic professionals. |
