The Metro medical examiner's office is counting down to Saturday's move
from the tan cube of a building that's been home since the mid-1980s to
an airy, brand-new facility it will share with the state medical examiner's
office in east Nashville.

None of the three infant deaths, standing alone, would justify homicide
charges against Vernica Shabree Ward, Tennessees chief medical examiner
testified yesterday. But the fact that Ward was the last person caring
for three children under the age of 18 months whose deaths cannot otherwise
be explained makes it likely that she killed them, Dr. Bruce Levy said
in Davidson County Criminal Court.
