STATE OF TENNESSEE CENTER FOR FORENSIC MEDICINE

The State of Tennessee Center for Forensic Medicine is a state-of-the-art forensic facility located in Nashville, Tennessee. It opened in July 2001 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. This 20,000 square foot building houses the offices of the State Medical Examiner for Tennessee and the County Medical Examiner for Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County in a cooperative arrangement between these two government entities. This facility includes many new and innovative ideas in the design and construction of a medical examiner's office, including ample use of natural light, easy to clean surfaces in the laboratory, multi-functional spaces, and many energy saving design features.

The Center for Forensic Medicine is a one-story building divided into administrative and laboratory wings by a central two-story atrium. The administrative wing contains offices for the medical examiners and administrative staff, an investigative squad room for the Davidson County Medical Examiner, clerical offices, active and archival records rooms, a multi-function conference/training room, and office space for visiting physicians and medical students. Located in the laboratory wing are the main autopsy suite, a special autopsy room, an anthropology laboratory, a tissue donation room, two body coolers, and offices for the forensic technicians.
